Rail experts running on time for National Railway Day at Canada Science and Technology Museum
OTTAWA, November 2, 2012 – Reporters and assignment editors looking for expert sources to mark National Railway Day stories on November 7 should consider visiting the Canada Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) on November 6.
Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation's Curator of Land and Marine Transport, Sharon Babaian, will be available for media interviews. Ms Babaian will be happy to discuss an exciting new restoration project involving the cab of CSTM's CP #2858 Royal Hudson locomotive. This restoration work is being undertaken by the Bytown Railway Society in cooperation with CSTM in honour of the late Duncan DuFresne, a longtime CSTM and Bytown Railway Society volunteer who passed away earlier this year and who had worked as a fireman on the Royal Hudsons. Mr X., of the Bytown Railway Society, will also be present to discuss the restoration project.
CSTM will also be hosting a book launch for Kevin J. Holland and Ken Goslett's, Canadian National Railways Diesel Locomotives, Volume One : The Steam-to-Diesel Transition on North America's Largest Railway, The authors will be speaking to a tour group from the Association of Railway Museums, consisting of railway heritage professionals and enthusiasts from across North America. They will be signing copies of their book and will also be available for interviews. The research for this book was originally commissioned by former CSTMC Curator of Land Transportation David Monaghan (now Curator of the House of Commons' Curatorial services), who will also be in attendance.
