Minister McKenna Launches Climate Change is Here Outdoor Exhibition
OTTAWA, Monday, June 6, 2016 — The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of the Environment and Climate Change and MP Ottawa Centre, launched the Climate Change is Here travelling exhibition, an initiative of the Canada Science and Technology Museum’s energy literacy program Let’s Talk Energy, over the weekend.
The outdoor visual display features stunning imagery of climate change as told through photographs from National Geographic Society’s reportage of the topic throughout the years. Through the Museum’s partnerships with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Natural Resources Canada, and Sustainable Development Technology Canada, the exhibit highlights Canadian research in the field of climate change, and technologies developed to help mitigate it.
The 20-panel modular structure is lit by solar-powered lights and free for viewing to the public. Installed outside the Horticulture Building at Lansdowne Park, the exhibition will remain in place until September 6, 2016 when it will become available for national and international tours.
“Climate change is the challenge of our generation that future generations have to deal with if we do not. Environment and Climate Change Canada is proud to support the ‘Climate Change is Here’ travelling photo exhibition, that engages us all in understanding impacts and adapting to climate change.”
- Honourable Catherine McKenna, Minister of Environment and Climate Change and MP Ottawa Centre
“The Museum is proud to partner with National Geographic Society and government agencies tackling climate change to bring the dramatic images of the Climate Change is Here exhibition to Canadians. This travelling exhibition, part of the Museum’s Let’s Talk Energy multi-year initiative, is another example of how we fulfil our national role as Canada’s leading science culture communicators.”
- Alex Benay, President and Chief Executive Officer, Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation
