National Railway Day at the Canada Science and Technology Museum : curatorial talk on the Last Spike

OTTAWA, November 6, 2012 – The Last Spike, one of Canadian history's most iconic artefacts, will be the topic of a presentation by the Canada Science and Technology Museums Corporation Curator of Land and Marine Transport, Sharon Babaian, on National Railway Day.

In her presentation, Ms Babaian will explore the various aspects of commemorative objects. Why do museums collect them? What are the challenges involved in successfully identifying them? How do people come to ascribe such powerful symbolic meaning to these objects?
