Forces Acting on Structures

Forces Acting on Structures

Students will welcome failure for once as they watch a crushing machine test materials to their breaking point and beyond in this exploration of force.

Program Description:

Students explore the concept of force in this hands-on workshop. They learn the difference between tension and compression, and the ways that simple machines can reduce the force necessary to move an object. They build load-bearing cantilever, suspension, and arch bridges, and test their construction using different loads. They even see a crushing machine in action as it tests different materials to spectacular failure!
